Back to School Information
Back to school can be a stressful time financially for many families. Below are suggestions, advice, tips and tricks and useful information for possible ways to relieve some strain.
Uniform
  • Castlemartyr N.S. provides a uniform exchange. Parents/guardians are encouraged to donate uniforms and tracksuits in good condition that their children have outgrown. This will be expanded this year to include school bags in good condition.

  • Every summer, on a particular day, which parents are notified of, parents/guardians can get any part or all of the uniform or tracksuit, provided sizes are available. This service can be used at any time of the year by emailing the principal.

  • Hydes in Midleton will take deposits to be put against a purchase at a later date. This can be used as a type of savings scheme towards the uniform and tracksuit purchase for back to school.

Books

  • This year funds from fundraising activities will be used to provide some of the copy books for all children to reduce the cost of Back to School book purchases for parents/guardians.

  • The Shelf book shop in Midleton provide a savings scheme in the form of stamps as a way for parents/guardians to put money away to help with back to school costs. They stock books, stationary, bags, pencil cases, lunch boxes, water bottles etc.

  • Back to School Allowance

    • Applications for Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance opens on the 20th of June.

02/06/2022 - Walk in the Woods
There was a fantastic buzz around as children and adults gathered in the school car pack and walked in a line into the woods. While in the woods the children's excitement was palpable as they completed the emoji hunt. We escaped the rain into the school hall for refreshments as the children danced to Go Noodle songs. Castlemartyr has a very special sense of community spirit and this was clear at this event. Thank you to everyone who came and to those who contributed to our fundraising initiative, and to all our parent volunteers. Special thanks also to our Youth Club volunteers who stewarded for us on the evening.

14/5/2022 - 2nd class celebration of Sacrament of Communion
A tradition that was halted due to Covid restrictions was alive and well again in the school hall on Saturday following the First Holy Communion Mass. All 2nd class children and their families were invited to the school hall for company, tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes. There was a wonderful sense of community spirit and good feeling as people chatted and children enjoyed the special day. In keeping with the tradition of previous PA committees, all second class children received a party bag, a certificate and a personalised cupcake.
It could not have been possible without the help of all the volunteer parents who set up, served teas and coffees, cleaned up, made sandwiches and baked cakes. The PA would like to extend a special thanks to those volunteer parents, Mr. Ó Tuama, Mr. Morawski, Mrs. Murphy and Betty Bernard for their help and support.

15/4/2022

The wildflower beds needed to be dug out before they could be replanted. This work was too heavy for the children so the school asked the PA for help. Committee members and wonderful parent volunteers, as well as a few very helpful kids gave up their time on Good Friday to get the job done. There was a great sense of community and plenty of laughing and joking. Thanks to everyone for the help, the beds are now ready for the children to learn through experience.
